This article explains how licensing works in 7pace Timetracker for Azure DevOps, including the Free plan, trial availability, subscription tiers, and what happens when a trial or subscription expires.

## Licensing model

7pace Timetracker uses a **named-user** licensing model. Each person who uses 7pace Timetracker needs an assigned role and, when required, an active license slot.

- User roles are managed in **Settings** > **Permissions**.
- Setting a user’s role to **None** removes access and frees that license slot.

## Subscription tiers and benefits

| **Plan** | **Team size** | **Price** | **Key limits** | **Best fit / benefits** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Free | Up to 3 users | Free | 500 worklogs per organization | Good for small teams evaluating light usage with no paid subscription. |
| Start | Up to 19 users | $8 per user per month on annual pricing | 1,000 worklogs per user | Designed for smaller teams that need core time tracking without the full reporting history and heavier API needs. |
| Team | Up to 299 users | $13 per user per month on annual pricing | One organization | Best for teams that need fuller work history, stronger reporting, API access, and broader day-to-day operational use. |
| Ultimate | From 20 users | $17 per user per month on annual pricing | Unlimited organizations | Best for large enterprises that need maximum flexibility across multiple Azure DevOps organizations and local installations. |

## Switching to the Free plan

Reducing the number of active users to 3 or fewer in **Settings** > **Permissions** does **not** automatically convert a paid subscription or expired setup to the **Free** plan.

To move to the Free plan, an administrator must:

1. Reduce active users to 3 or fewer in **Settings** > **Permissions**.
2. Go to **Settings** > **Subscription** and explicitly select **Free**.

## When a trial or subscription expires

- Access to 7pace Timetracker is blocked when the subscription or trial expires.
- Users cannot continue using the application until a valid subscription is restored or the organization qualifies for and switches to the **Free** plan.
- For cloud environments, historical data is retained for up to **1 year** after expiration.

## How to restore access

1. Open **Settings** > **Subscription**.
2. Purchase or renew the subscription if continued paid access is needed.
3. If the organization qualifies for the Free plan, reduce active users and explicitly select the Free plan.
