## Introduction

7pace Timetracker integrates with Jira, combining its roles and permissions with standard roles in Jira. This means that a user’s 7pace role is automatically assigned based on their corresponding Jira permissions, whether they are a Jira Administrator or a standard user. Permission settings can be customized in two ways: either by modifying the default association between 7pace and Jira Groups or by adjusting roles for individual users.

 

## 7pace roles and their Jira associations

7pace Timetracker uses five distinct roles, each with specific permissions. Upon installation of the app, Administrator users are automatically assigned the **7pace Admin** role, and standard users can be added to the **7pace Team** role using a toggle within the Role Management configuration. This default association applies to any new users added to the Jira instance after 7pace has been installed, and is updated whenever a user's Jira role changes:

If this setup doesn’t fully align with your privacy needs—for example, if you'd prefer stricter control over who can view work logs—you can easily adjust the role associations to meet your specific requirements.

## Updating role assignments

You can easily modify the default role assignments between 7pace and Jira to better suit your organization’s needs. Two options are possible: 

1. Assign Jira Groups to specific 7pace roles. This configuration is especially beneficial for larger companies, where adjusting individual user roles can be cumbersome. By setting a default association based on Groups, organizations can efficiently manage permissions for the entire team, including new users joining the instance.
2. Assigning specific Jira Users to 7pace roles individually. This option could be better if you're part of a smaller organization where user roles in Jira don’t necessarily overlap with their responsibilities in 7pace.

To change the role assignments, 7pace Admins can navigate to the app and go to **Settings** > **Role Management**. The Role Management screen provides an overview of 7pace roles, including details on their permissions and the currently associated Jira Groups and Users. 

For example, if you want to modify role associations so that a Jira Group named “Support” can view and manage their own worklogs but no more than that, that Group needs to be added to the **Individual **role. However, upon installation, no Jira Groups are mapped to 7pace roles except for the Jira Administrator role, which is mapped to the role **7pace Admin**. 

To add the Support group to the Individual role, follow these steps: 

1. Expand the 7pace **Individual** role in the list of roles and click the plus button next to **Groups**.
2. From the pulldown menu, select the **Support** group.
3. A confirmation message will appear stating that the group has been successfully added.
4. You can verify that the Group has been added by expanding the **Groups** panel.

After this change, Jira users in the Support Group will have the 7pace Individual role assigned, enabling them to see and manage only their own time. This change will also apply to any new members added in the future.

If you determine that a specific 7pace role should not be used, assign **None** to that role (similar to the 7pace role 'Manager', which is not associated with any monday.com role by default). You can also choose to completely remove the association for specific monday.com roles, ensuring they do not have a corresponding 7pace role.

## Updating individual roles 

It is also possible to change an individual user's roles and permissions. For instance, if your Jira instance primarily consists of Users, but you have a few team leads who require higher 7pace role permissions but you cannot alter their Jira role, you can adjust their 7pace roles individually. This adjustment will override any assignment made under the **Groups** panel.
