AIP allows you to add custom fields for your assets to any screen you want for Jira Core, Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and JSM customer portal. You can filter the custom field’s content by Asset Type(s) or saved filters.

> 📝 You can define multiple custom fields specific to your Asset Types. For example, you can create a custom field for IT by filtering IT Asset Types and then create another custom field for Human Resources by selecting a saved filter for HR.

## Create asset custom fields

> 📝 For more information on creating custom fields, refer to the[ Atlassian documentation](https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/adding-a-custom-field-938847222.html).

You can add multiple custom fields to Jira Service Desk customer portal and Jira issue create, view, and edit screens. Each custom field can contain different form assets. To create a custom field, follow these steps:

1. Go to **Jira Administration** > **Issues**.
2. Select **Custom Fields** from the menu in the **Fields** section.
3. Click **Add custom field**.
4. Click **All** in the left panel at *Select Field Type* popup**.**
5. Select **AIP Assets And Inventory Plugin Custom Field.**
6. Click **Next**. The custom field configuration appears.
7. Enter **Name** for the custom field. For example, `Computer Assets`.
8. Enter a **Description** if you want to show it under the custom field in *Create*/*Edit*/*View* screens.
9. Click **Create**.
10. Select the checkboxes of the screens on which this custom field will be displayed.
11. Scroll down and click **Update**.

## Configuring custom field content

Custom fields display all the assets of the system by default. You can limit the forms in the **Custom Fields Configuration** page. Here is how:

1. Go to **Assets** > **Settings** >** Custom Fields Configuration**.
2. Click **Configure**.
3. Fill in the form.

4. Click **Save**.

Now, the custom field will display all assets or the assets of the selected Asset Types, filter, or reporter's assets. You can test it on the Issue screens.

## Add asset custom fields to a request type for JSM customer portal

You can add multiple custom fields to the JSM customer portal and filter their content by Asset Type(s) or saved filters, allowing customers to provide additional information when submitting requests.

> 📝 **Important Note:** Before a custom field can be used on the customer portal, it must first be added to the relevant project screens within Jira.

1. Navigate to **Jira Administration** > **Projects**.
2. Select a service project from the Project list. The *Project settings* opens.
3. Select **Request types**.
4. Choose a request type in which you want to use a multilevel structure, and click **Edit fields**. The *Fields* screen displays.
5. Click **Add a field**.
6. Select custom fields and click **Apply **to save your** **changes.

With these steps completed, the custom field will now be available for customers to use when submitting requests through the JSM customer portal.
