With the AIP version 7.0, you can link assets to each other (*just like Jira's issue links*). No need to define asset attributes, just [define new asset link types](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/AIP/pages/10256909) and link assets. Please remember; you need *update permission* for both 2 linked asset types.

**Differences between **[**Reference Assets**](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/AIP/pages/10256796)** (asset attributes) and Asset Links**

- Links are great for generic and flexible asset linking. You can define as many link types as you wish and you can link any asset to another.
- Asset attributes are great for structural data: It is displayed as a field for asset type where users see and enters data, and you can make it mandatory.

### Linking assets

1. Go to **Asset Navigator** and **choose an asset**
2. Click **Link**
