This guide explains how to manage locations for your assets. Locations help you track the physical whereabouts of your assets.

### Add a location

1. Navigate to **Assets **>** Settings **>** Locations**.
2. Click **Create location**.
3. Fill in the fields.
  **Is active? –** You can uncheck this when a location is no longer available, but you still want to keep it in your system.  
**Is External – **Check this if the location is not managed by your company.
4. Click **Save**.

The location you’ve created will appear in the Location menu on the *Create asset* and *Update asset* screens.
