### Do I need to upgrade to Forge Remote?

Atlassian has announced the end of support for Connect-based apps and custom apps. Upgrading to the Forge Remote version ensures that Autowatch for Jira continues to run on Atlassian's supported platform.

Until you upgrade, your site continues to use the existing Connect on Forge version. Both versions provide the same features and functionality. For upgrade instructions, see [Upgrade Autowatch for Jira to Forge Remote.](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/AW/pages/3371697263)

### Will I lose functionality after upgrading to Forge?

No. The Forge Remote version provides the same features and functionality as the Connect on Forge version. Your existing Autowatch rules and configuration continue to work after the upgrade. The upgrade changes the underlying app platform, but it does not change how you configure or use Autowatch for Jira.

### Does Autowatch remove watchers when an issue no longer matches a rule?

No. Autowatch only adds watchers — it never removes them. Once a user is added to an issue's watchers list by a rule, they remain a watcher regardless of whether the issue later stops matching the rule's JQL.

### Do Autowatch rules apply to existing issues?

Rules do not apply retroactively to issues that existed before the rule was created. However, if an existing issue is updated after a rule is in place and the updated issue matches the rule's JQL, the specified watchers will be added at that point.

### Do Autowatch rules work with subtasks?

Yes, with some nuance. Jira treats subtasks as issues, so if a subtask matches a rule's JQL, the watchers will be added. However, Autowatch does not cascade watchers from a parent task down to its subtasks — each issue is evaluated independently against the rule.

### How do I watch all issues in a project?

Use the JQL `created > 0` as your rule filter. This matches all issues in the project.

### Can I have multiple rules per project?

Yes. You can create as many rules as you need within a project. Each rule has its own JQL filter and its own list of watchers, so you can target different users for different types of issues.

### Who is used to add the watchers — the rule creator or the specified users?

Autowatch runs rules as if the user who created the rule were manually adding the watchers. This means the rule creator's permissions apply. If the rule creator does not have permission to add a particular user as a watcher in a project, the assignment may not succeed for that user.

### Does Autowatch work with Jira Service Management?

Yes. Autowatch works with Jira Service Management projects. Rules can be created by project administrators in JSM projects and will fire on issue creation and update, just as in Jira Software projects. Note that in JSM, "watchers" may be referred to as "participants" depending on the project configuration.
