## Migrating metadata

You can use the** **[Export Metadata utility](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649793583) to store the metadata for each page and blog post and include it in the migration to the cloud.

The following metadata is included in the export and available on the page or blog post in the cloud:

- Metadata set with the [metadata macro](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/COMALACM/pages/655988203) of the [Comala Metadata app](https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/5295/comala-metadata?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview)
- metadata set with Comala Document Management Data Center [set-metadata macro](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/650251172)
- [workflow parameter](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649760641) data that has been edited at the page level

The metadata can be retrieved in the Confluence Cloud site using the Comala Document Management Cloud [Document metadata page macro](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=cdmc&title=Document%20Metadata&linkCreation=true&fromPageId=2193162674).

> ℹ️ Workflow parameter data at the space level is included with the [space workflow migrated to the cloud](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDMC/pages/2192902721).

## Export metadata utility

In your data center instance, in the space tools

- Navigate to the** Document Management dashboard**
- Choose **Export Metadata**

The metadata is added as a custom content property file on each migrated page and blog post.

The metadata on a page can be retrieved after migration in the Confluence Cloud site using the Comala Document Management Cloud [get-metadata](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDMCD/pages/1843658753) page macro added to your document.

![Comala metadata migration file download option](media://2d3d28ed-0b4a-4145-a435-9cec49a237a2)

You can add the metadata name to the macro to retrieve the metadata value.

![Comala metadata import dialog](media://c4897f2e-1548-46e6-a481-be2325c704d3)

You can **publish** or **update** the page to retrieve and render the metadata value on the page.

> 📝 This macro only retrieves metadata from migrated documents when the **Export Metadata** utility has been used in the space before migration.

## Pages metadata export verification

The Atlassian Confluence Cloud Migration Assistant (CCMA) in your hosted instance includes a vendor app pre-migration assessment that checks if the **Export Metadata** utility has been run for the spaces included in the migration plan.

![Comala migration precheck with pages metadata export verification](media://6cb99049-f5d7-45d9-a8c1-b1dc0c74bfe9)

The **Download report** option provides a CSV file listing the affected spaces - spaces in the migration plan where the **Export Metadata** utility has not been run.

## **Bulk export of metadata **

As an alternative to manually running the [Export Metadata utility](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649793583) in each hosted Confluence space, you can

- Undertake a bulk preservation of the metadata on each page in your hosted Confluence spaces by running the following script (which requires you to add appropriate credentials and the list of space keys)

> ℹ️ **Script:**
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ **Description**: Add the credentials, the list of Space keys, and run it.
