## Installing and configuring Comala Document Management

Install [Comala Document Management](https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/142/comala-document-management?hosting=datacenter&tab=installation) in your Confluence hosted instance from the Atlassian Marketplace, which can be accessed from the global administration **Manage apps** screen.

> ℹ️ You will need to purchase a license through the Atlassian Marketplace or activate a free trial.

On installation, the app is configured by default for use across all spaces in your instance, with a number of workflow templates that can be added and applied in the instance.

> 📝 You can look through our version history page to find older *Comala Document Management* versions compatible with your instance.

## Global administrator role

The global administrator

- [Manages the workflow templates](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649791093) available across the instance
- Sets the spaces in which Comala Document Management can be used
- Adds the Confluence user group, whose members can import workflows into a space
- Sets the app behaviors for the workflows used in the instance, for example
  - notifications
  - workflow activity and draft state content visibility

The global administrator is able to

- Automatically [apply a workflow using a space category workflow](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649629354), applying the workflow on the creation of a new space
- Edit and create workflows in the global workflows dashboard

Although a global administrator manages workflow templates across the instance, it is the space administrator who is the key user for managing and applying Comala Document Management to documents in each space.

> ℹ️ Each space administrator can choose the workflows that are applied in their space. They can also create and edit workflows that become unique to the space, and manage what [page workflows are available](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649827962) for a user to add on a page-by-page basis.

## Space administrator role

The space administrator

- Configures the workflow settings for the space
- [Manages the workflows available in the space](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649791093):
  - Space workflows (in the **Space Workflows dashboard**) that are added to the space, and
  - Page workflows (in the **Page Workflows Templates dashboard**) that are available for page editors to apply to an individual page
- Manages what workflows are applied across all the documents in the space (space workflows)

The space administrator can also create and edit workflows in the space.

> ✅ The space administrator is the key workflow user who adds and applies workflows to your documents in a space. For example, if a global workflow is added based on the space category, the space administrator can remove this workflow and choose a different workflow to be applied in the space.

The **Internal Page Publishing Configuration** settings only take effect when using the [same-space publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649794062). Space administrators can also configure the automatic workflow [notifications](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/650119000) for the space.
