## Overview

When an administrator enables **[Read-Only Mode](https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-read-only-mode-for-site-maintenance-952624304.html)** on Confluence Data Center, Comala Document Management is also affected, Some of Comala Document Management features, actions or endpoints are not allowed.

This policy follows Atlassian guidelines for **[read-only mode](https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-read-only-mode-for-site-maintenance-952624304.html)** to provide consistency to this administrative mode.

Whenever Confluence is on **[read-only mode](https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-read-only-mode-for-site-maintenance-952624304.html)**, a message bar similar to the following will be shown on the top of the window

## Read Only Mode behavior

As a general rule during **[Read-Only Mode](https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-read-only-mode-for-site-maintenance-952624304.html)**

- Comala Document Management **"view"** actions are always **allowed** as long as the user has enough privileges in a similar way that during **[Read-Only Mode](https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-read-only-mode-for-site-maintenance-952624304.html)** users can still navigate pages normally
- Comala Document Management actions like approving pages or completing tasks are restricted
- administration configuration for global workflows is allowed

Some Comala Document Management options will still be visible and clickable, for example, a user can open the workflow popup accessed through the workflow state breadcrumb on the page.

> 📝 If a workflow action is attempted, for example a user attempts to submit and approval or rejection, an error will be displayed.

When a restricted action is not allowed during **[Read Only Mode](https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/using-read-only-mode-for-site-maintenance-952624304.html)****, for example**

- changing the configuration on Space Tools>Document Management>Configuration
- or adding or editing a page workflow

Confluence redirects the user to a page similar to

> ℹ️ **Read Only Mode** must be enabled when upgrading the data in one or more existing spaces to use document activity using the [Document Activity Data Upgrade Console](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649760247) after installing Comala Document Management 7.0+.
