## Overview

Some state content reviews can require approval from multiple groups, in which case the layout of the [workflow state dialog](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/649659846) changes slightly as the review groups are managed by having multiple approvals in the state, with each approval being configured separately.

When more than one approval is added to a state, additional dots are displayed in the middle of the dialog box:

- Each dot represents an approval for the state
- Move the pointer over each dot to view the approval name
- Click the **pending approvals** option to view the details of each approval

Each approval can be configured separately, including the reviewer assignment

By default, all the approvals must be completed for the approval transition to occur, and they can be completed in any order (parallel approvals). However, if the workflow has been set to require them to be completed in a specific order, approvals can be inactive until other approvals are complete.

## Selecting a review group

There are two ways to select an approval and display the decision options for that approval, including the reviewer group

- Choose one of the dots to toggle the display to the related approval in the dialog box

- Or, choose the **pending approvals** link next to the dots

- Select one approval to display the decision buttons for that approval

## Completing the approval

With an approval review group selected, the normal features of [content reviews](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/650313809), such as [assigning reviewers](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CDML/pages/650347935), can be used.

Before a state transition occurs, all of the approval review groups in each approval must agree to **Approve** or **Reject** the content.

The progress of each approval review group is indicated by the color of the dots in the state dialog box:

- > Macro (inline-media-image)

 Grey - **Incomplete** review
- > Macro (inline-media-image)

 Light blue - **Assigned as reviewer **- As the current viewer of the document, you are assigned as a reviewer, but your approval decision is pending
- > Macro (inline-media-image)

 Green - **Approved** review - approval completed as approved
- > Macro (inline-media-image)

 Red - **Rejected** review - approval completed as rejected

The current decision status for each reviewer for each approval is displayed when viewing the list of approvals

> 📝 If one other approval in the state is pending (not yet complete), a reviewer can amend their decision in a completed approval.
