### What’s included in a snapshot

A snapshot is a packaged state of your Jira Data Center projects and their configuration elements that you can export and later deploy to any Jira Cloud site. Snapshots let you prepare, review, and reuse configurations without immediately running a deployment.

The Configuration Manager Cloud Migration Tool (CMT) snapshots support the same configuration elements as CMJ Cloud. You can find them [listed here](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/DCMFJC/pages/173178888).

> 📝 **Issue migration**
> 📝
> 📝 The Configuration Manager Cloud Migration Tool snapshots don’t support issue migration. If you want to transfer over issues from Data Center to Cloud you need to use the [migration feature](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CMT/pages/198020736).

---

### Prerequisites

Before creating a snapshot using CMT:

- Install the free [Cloud Migration Tool](https://marketplace.atlassian.com/apps/1224900/configuration-manager-cloud-migration-tool?hosting=datacenter&tab=overview) on your Jira Data Center instance.
- Make sure you have **Jira System Administrators **permissions.

---

### Create a snapshot

1. In your Data Center instance, go to **Apps > Configuration Manager > Snapshots**.
2. If you haven’t created or uploaded any snapshots yet, you’ll see a **New snapshot** button on the page. Otherwise, you can use the **New snapshot** button in the top-right corner to create a snapshot.
3. The *Take snapshot* page will open up. Press the **New snapshot** button to proceed.
4. Give your snapshot a name. Then, click **Next**.
5. Then, click **Add projects **next to the *Projects* line** **to pick the projects you want to add to the snapshot.
6. (Optional) Add boards by clicking the **Add boards** button next to the *Boards* line.
7. When you’re ready with your selections, click **Take snapshot**.
8. When your snapshot is created, you’ll get a summary screen. You can use the **Download** button to immediately download this snapshot.
9. You’re now ready to [deploy it to CMJ Cloud](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CMJC/pages/2507112493).

### Manage snapshots

In the *Snapshots* page, you can view a list of all your snapshots that have either been created or are in progress of being created. Here, you can use the *Actions* column to take the following actions for each snapshot:

- **View** a snapshot to open its final summary screen or track its progress, depending on whether it has been created or is still in progress.
- **Download** a snapshot to upload it to CMJ Cloud for deployment.
- **Delete** a snapshot you no longer need.
