## App publishing settings

After installing Comala Publishing, the space administrator can use the [app space publishing settings](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252290) to configure a space to publish pages in another space on the same Confluence Cloud site.

> ℹ️ You can review and change the configuration in the setup wizard before first publishing a space. The publishing configuration is changed in the source space publishing settings. You must have added a target space to change any other publishing setting for the space.

<span style="color: #172b4d">When a target space is selected and saved in the </span>[app space publishing settings](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252290)<span style="color: #172b4d">, publishing is enabled by default. A user can use the app to publish pages from the current space to the target (</span><span style="color: #172b4d">**public**</span><span style="color: #172b4d">) space.</span>

## Publishing permissions

#### Publishing configuration

To set up or change the publishing configuration, you must be a space administrator in the **source space **and the **target space.**

#### Publishing pages

You need permissions in both the **source space **and the** target space to publish** all the **pages in a space**.

In the source space:

- A **space administrator** requires **view** and **edit** permission for all the pages
- A **page editor** publishing an individual page needs **view** and **edit** permission

You also need **view** and **edit** [space permissions](https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Space+Permissions+Overview) in the **target space** to publish a page.

In the default publishing configuration, pages are published and synced using the **Comala Publishing app add-on user permissions** in the target space.

Using the add-on user permissions in the target space to publish pages lets you remove user edit permissions in the published target space, which can support compliance needs.

You can configure publishing to use the target space permissions for either

- The publishing user
- The Comala Publishing app add-on user

When you configure publishing to use the permissions of the publishing user, this user needs at least the following [space permissions](https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/DOC/Space+Permissions+Overview) in the **target space** to publish a page:

- **View All**
- **Add and Delete Pages**
- **Add and Delete Attachments**

> 📝 Do not change the permissions for the app add-on user!

Page-level restrictions on a page in the **target space** can prevent a space administrator from publishing and syncing the source space page. As a space administrator, if you [publish all the pages](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/647038008), a restricted page in the source space is not included in the list of '**Pages not published**' in the [whole space publishing report](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/647004645).

## Publishing configuration

In the app publishing settings in the source space, you must add a destination space for your published pages - the **Target space** - to change any of the other app publishing settings.

You can also use this option to change the target space and publish and sync pages to a different space.

When a target space is configured,** **the** Enable publishing **is active by default.

The default publishing configuration lets you publish and sync pages from this source space to the target space using

- [Single-page publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646578988) by a page editor on a page-by-page basis
- [Space publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646578843) by a space administrator to publish and sync all the pages

The space administrator can configure publishing to:

### Prevent any publishing from the space

The space administrator can make the **Enable publishing** option inactive to prevent page publishing and syncing in a space. This can be useful during an audit period.

### Select the user permissions to use for publishing

The space administrator can use the **Select user performing publishing action** dropdown to choose the user who is responsible for the publishing action.

For single-page and space publishing, the selected user's view and edit permissions in the target space are used. After publishing, this user is recorded as the user who last updated the published target space page. If this is the first time the page is published, the selected user is also recorded as the page creator and page owner in the target space.

> ℹ️ By default, the Comala Publishing for Confluence Cloud app add-on user is selected. On installing the app, the app add-on user is added to all the spaces in your Confluence Cloud site with **view** and **edit** permissions.

### Prevent editors from publishing pages

A space administrator can prevent editors from publishing on a page-by-page basis by making the [single-page publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646578988) option inactive in the space settings.

Making single-page publishing in a space removes the **Publish** option for editors and space administrators from the publishing dialog box on a page.

When **Single page publishing** is inactive, publishing is limited to a space administrator by using the **Space publish** option in the space settings or in the [publishing report](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/1072562207).

### Copying of page content properties.

It is useful to make this option inactive if there is a 3rd party app in the target space.

### Limit bulk publishing to pages in a Comala workflow final state

 When active, this setting lets you limit space publishing to pages that are out of sync and that are in the workflow final state of a Comala workflow applied to the page.

 It is applicable only when using the [space publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646578843) option in the app space settings and a Comala workflow is active in the space.

###  Publishing the whole space

A** **space administrator can use the **Publish space** button to publish and sync all the space pages in the space to the target space.

If all the pages have been previously published by a space administrator, for example, if you used the setup tool and published the space, details of the last space publish action are displayed. 

The **See details** link displays a report for the last publishing of all the pages in the space.

> ℹ️ After a space is configured for publishing, you can publish and sync pages using single-page publishing, as pages are updated, or space publishing to publish and sync all the pages in a space. It is recommended to publish the top-level pages first to avoid hierarchical errors and publishing to the root of the target space.
