## Overview

In the source space, you can manually publish each page using the [publishing state byline and publishing popup](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252111).

![cpc_publishingpopup_newstatus_publishbutton.png](media://484e8239-74e1-43e2-a30d-7a95dd2a03d0)

> 📝 The **Publish** button is only displayed when [single-page publishing is enabled](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252212) for the space, and the ellipsis menu option is only displayed for space administrators.

In the publishing dashboard of the space (the source space), you must have

- [added a target space for the published content](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646219345)
- [enabled the current space for publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646251946)
- [enabled single-page publishing](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252212)

You will also need **view** and **edit** permissions for both the source space and the target space.

> ℹ️ When publishing permissions in the space are set to [use the Comala Publishing for Confluence Cloud app add-on user](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/1433075760), the publishing user does not need target space permissions to publish a page. Instead, publishing relies on the app add-on user’s permissions in the target space

If you publish a document using a Comala workflow added to the page, you can consider disabling single-page publishing.

> ✅ When a[ spac](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252212)e [is enabled for publishing and a](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646252212) target space has been set, standalone single-page publishing is enabled by default for each space.

## Publishing a page

For an unpublished page (in the space **Human Resources Draft),** choose the publishing state byline **New** to open the publishing popup.

Successful publishing is also confirmed in an on-screen message.

> ℹ️ The single page publishing on-screen confirmation message dialog box is only displayed once. It is cleared and is not displayed again
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ - after the page is refreshed
> ℹ️ - on a subsequent page view if the message is cleared by a user
> ℹ️ - on returning to the page after using the **View published version** link

Refresh the page to view the updated publishing state byline in the page subtitle and open the publishing popup.

The publishing popup displays

- the **View Published Version** link button to the published page
- the **Publish** button option to publish the page again

> 📝 The configuration settings option cog icon link is only displayed in the publishing popup if the current user is an administrator.

## Synced page

When a page is published to the target space, the publishing state byline on the page in the source space changes to **Synced**. This byline has also been added to the published page in the target space.

![cpc_publishingpopup_syncedstatus_lessthanaminute_publishbutton_viewpublishedversionbutton.png](media://94e38f2f-0aaa-4ff2-a2e5-fbe3ffc7c7fb)

The publishing popup displays

- the current time elapsed since the sync occurred
- a **Publish** button option
- a **View Published Version** button to display the page in the target space

The page in the target space (**Human Resources **public space) also displays the **Synced** state byline.

The publishing popup in the target space includes a link button to the source space version of the page.

## Out of sync page

If there are any [changes to the page content](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/697469115) that has been published, the publishing state byline is changed to **Out of sync**.

![cpc_publishingpopup_outofsyncstatus_lastsync6mins_publishbutton_viewpublishedversionbutton.png](media://867bc307-8288-4c4f-8899-1f54544dd487)

- changes on the target or the source space page cause the page to be out of sync
- both the target and the source space page publishing state byline will be **Out of sync**

## Deleting a page

Deleting the page in the target space adds the **Out of sync** state byline to the source space page.

Removing the page in the source space adds a **Removed** state byline to the target space page.

## Warning message

If a page is published without a parent in the target space, it is published to the root of the space.

Successful publishing is confirmed with a warning message.

> 📝 To maintain hierarchy, ensure parent pages are published before child pages.

You might need to

- manually change the hierarchy in the target space or
- delete this published page and republish after the parent page is published

## Error messages

#### Target space user permission error

If the current user does not have **view** and **edit** permission in the target space, the page is not published, and an error message is displayed.

![image](media://e3baecec-f563-460f-9a93-3052f15e0207)

#### Unsuccessful publishing error

An unsuccessful publishing action displays the following error message.

Simply check that the page is not currently being edited by another user or published, for example, in a space publishing action, and then choose **Publish** again.

## Copying content properties

By default, the [copying of content properties](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646775243) when publishing a page is enabled for the space. A space administrator can choose to disable this feature for source space pages in the [source space settings publishing dashboard](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CPCL/pages/646644089).
