# Description

The [Update Issues](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CSOT/pages/68749016) post function can also be used to **transition** issues together with updating fields. The same configuration is used and it works similarly. In order to make it a transition, the **Transition** field needs to be populated with a valid transition name or id. An invalid transition or a transition that is not valid for the current state of the issue is ignored with the error logged to the Jira application log. This page documents the difference to [Update Issues](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/CSOT/pages/68749016) when a transition is requested.

# Restrictions

- Only issue fields on the transition screen can be updated on a transition. Other field changes are ignored.
- If a comment is requested, it must be on the transition screen and is added as part of the transition.

# Add transition

## Select Post Function

1. Click the **Add** **Post Function **button in the* Post Functions *section of the workflow transition you want to add post function to.
2. Find and select the *Update Issues* in the list.
3. Click the **Add** button to add details to the post function.

## View post functions

You can view all the configuration details of a post function in the *Post Function *tab:
