> ℹ️ Remember that the attribute you configure in **Settings** must precisely match the attributes in your bulk import CSV file.

To configure user attributes, go to **Settings** > **User Management** > **User attributes** (the **Manage Users & Teams** permission is required).

There are eight default attribute subgroups categorized into three main groups. Customize each subgroup by adding or removing an attribute value. There is no limit to the number of attribute values you can add.

In addition, there is a fourth main group that can hold up to 10 custom attribute subgroups. As in the default groups, there is no limit to to how many attribute values you add to your custom subgroups.

> 📝 To enable any default attribute subgroup, use the toggle switch next to a given attribute. Note that an attribute subgroup cannot be enabled if you have not added at least one attribute value to it.

## Default attributes

> ℹ️ All default attributes, except the Programming Language, are single-select, meaning you can assign only one to each user. For example, a user is located in India and works full-time. Once you have assigned those values to that person, you cannot assign a secondary Country or Employment Type attribute values to them.
> ℹ️ 
> ℹ️ To assign more than one value from the same subgroup, use multi-select custom attributes.

To add/delete default attributes (but **Country**):

1. Expand an attribute** **subgroup you want to edit (for example, a *Region*).
2. Click **Edit**.
3. Click **Add custom value** to add a field for a new attribute.
4. Name the new attribute value.
5. To remove any value, click the **X** button next to it.
6. Click **Save**.

When the attributes are saved, you can **Edit** them to add more values or remove the existing ones.

### Location

The **Location** group consists of the following attribute subgroups:

- Country
- Region
- Timezone

#### Country

To add a country attribute:

1. Expand the **Country** subgroup.
2. Click **Edit**.
3. Click the **search bar** to open the dropdown list of countries.
4. Check the countries on the list.
5. Click **Save**.

#### Region

By default, the EMEA, APAC, and AMER regions are already added. 

Edit the attributes to add new regions and/or remove the default ones.

#### Timezone

You can select from 596 distinct timezones to assign as specific user attributes, including America/Chicago, Asia/Colombo, Australia/Queensland, Etc/GMT-0, Zulu, and more.

Enable this subgroup in Flow to recognize the timezones you add in your import file. For a full list of supported timezones, click the attached file to open/download the CSV file:  .

> ℹ️ When you bulk import your users/teams, be sure to add the timezone attributes in the exact format as in the CSV file.

### Employment

The **Employment** group consists of the following attribute subgroups:

- Hire Date
- Employment Type
- Seniority Level

#### Hire Date

The Hire Date attribute in your CSV file must be in the **YYYY-MM-DD** format.

Use the toggle to enable the attribute.

#### Employment Type

Edit the attributes to add employment types valid for your organization. For example, Contractor, Fixed-Term, Part-Time, Zero Hour.

#### Seniority Level

Edit the attributes to add role levels valid for your organization. For example, Associate, Senior, L1.

### Engineering Details

The **Engineering Details** group consists of the following attribute subgroups:

- Engineer Type
- Programming Language

#### Engineer Type

Edit the attributes to add engineer types valid for your organization. For example, Architect, Frontend, DevOps.

#### Programming Language

Edit the attributes to add programming languages used by your teams. For example, Go, Java, and Python.

If your engineers are proficient in several programming languages, this default attribute supports multi-select. This means you can list multiple programming languages for each person in your CSV file.

## Custom Attributes

To add/delete custom attributes:

1. Click **Add custom attribute** to open the **New attribute** screen.
2. In the **Attribute name** field, enter the name for the attribute subgroup.
3. In the **Add values** field, enter the name for the new attribute value.
4. In the **Assign user value** section:
  1. Select **Multiple values to one user** if you want to assign more than one custom attribute value from this subgroup to a user.
  2. Or, select **Single value to one user** if you want to assign only one custom attribute from this subgroup to a user.
5. To add more fields for new attributes, click the **Add custom value** button.
6. To remove an attribute value, click the **X** button next to it.
7. Click **Save**.

When the attributes are saved, you can continue adding more custom attribute subgroups and values. You can also **Edit** the existing attributes and remove an attribute subgroup along with all its values in one go using the **Delete attribute** option.

## Edit/Update user attribute values

Updating a user attribute value will automatically apply that change to all users currently assigned to it.

### Edit individual attributes in Settings

To edit a user attribute:

1. Expand the attribute.
2. Click **Edit**.
3. Update:
  1. default attribute value
  2. custom attribute name and/or its values
4. Click **Save**.
