The User attribute insights report helps you understand exactly how different attributes—such as location, seniority, or employment type (all customizable)—influence your team's overall performance. This granularity lets you identify high-performing patterns within specific cohorts, such as remote versus on-site squads, and apply successful strategies across the rest of your organization.

Furthermore, these insights empower you to make data-driven decisions on headcount planning and talent development, as you can clearly see where skill gaps exist or where certain seniority levels may be experiencing throughput bottlenecks.

Ultimately, these reporting capabilities provide you with a clearer narrative for stakeholders, justifying operational changes with precise data and ensuring that your engineering strategy is perfectly aligned with your broader business objectives.

Below, you can watch an overview of the User attribute insights report.

As engineering or organizations scale, their biggest questions often aren't about the code itself, but about our talent strategy.

Are remote squads onboarding as fast as  on-site teams?

Is a lack of senior presence causing a delivery bottleneck in certain regions?

In this video, we’ll take a look at Flow’s User Attribute Insights, a report designed to bridge the gap between software delivery metrics and your organization's demographic data.

Before we dive in, a quick note on setup: This report relies entirely on the custom attributes you map to your team, things like location, seniority, role, or employment type.

If you haven’t configured these attributes for your organization, the report won’t display data.

Ensure your user metadata is uploaded and ready to go.

For SEI leaders, the real magic happens in the Attribute view.

Instead of tracking individual developers, this view aggregates your software delivery data by cohorts.

Let's look at our current display.

We have organized our report primarily by Region, breaking down our engineering data across the Americas, APAC, and EMEA.

Flow then displays a matrix with other attributes like Programming Language and Work Model, showing exactly how many users fall into each category.

If we pan to the right, Flow rolls up our core delivery metrics for each regional cohort.

Notice the color coding: Flow automatically highlights our top performers in green, representing the 75th percentile, and process risks in orange, representing the 25th percentile.

For instance, we can instantly see that our EMEA team is heavily in the green with a 76.2% 'Thoroughly Reviewed PR' rate and a very high 90.5% Efficiency score.

Meanwhile, our APAC team's Efficiency is orange at 71.3%.

As a leader, you don't have to hunt through separate dashboards to find these variations.

The data instantly tells you where your regional delivery models are thriving and where they might need operational support.

If you notice an anomaly or an exceptionally strong pattern in your high-level attribute cohorts, you can switch the display toggle to the User view for a granular cross-section.

The first column stays locked to your individual team members, and subsequent columns allow you to map their specific user attributes directly alongside their Flow metrics.

For instance, we can see exactly which users belong to the EMEA region and how their individual cycle times or PR review rates are contributing to the regional average.

Finally, the Team view allows you to see how these user attributes impact entire squads across your organization.

The rows switch to your individual teams, like Agile, Alpha, or Appfire Engineering, and give you a unique count of total users per team.

At the top, you can quickly toggle the Nested teams filter to include or exclude sub-teams depending on how high-level you want your report to be.

But what if you want to clean up this view and focus only on specific segments?

Filtering is built right into the interface.

By simply clicking the filter icon next to an attribute column header, like Region or Programming Language, you can check or uncheck specific options from the dropdown menu.

For example, if you want to hide unassigned user data, you can deselect the 'empty' attribute and hit update.

This allows you to immediately isolate the exact teams and cohorts you need to analyze, keeping your view focused and clutter-free.

When it’s time to justify engineering strategy, headcount budgets, or regional expansions to executive stakeholders, you need a precise, data-backed narrative.

Click Export current view and generate a clean CSV containing all your active attributes and metrics, ready for your next leadership meeting.

Stop guessing if your talent strategy is working.

Use User Attribute Insights to perfectly align your engineering execution with your broader business objectives.

## Access and permissions

To open the report, go to **Reports** > **Reporting trends** > **Scenario builder** > **User attribute insights** tab.

You need the **Scenario Builder Report** permission to access this report. Also, you will only see data for users on teams you have permission to access.

This report is based on user attributes, so if you have no [attributes configured](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FD/pages/3044311307) for your organization, the report will not show.

## Display data

You can display the report by **User**, **Attributes**, and **Team**.

> 📝 Each report display requires you to select at least one attribute from the **Edit attributes** menu and at least one metric from the **Edit metrics** menu. It is not possible to disable all attributes and Flow metrics.

The metric data is color-coded: orange indicates the 25th percentile and green the 75th percentile.

### Display: User

The **User** report view provides a cross-section of results for selected metrics, analyzed against specific attributes mapped directly to individual users.

![User attribute insights report. User display.](media://3e6a6378-d156-4cdf-871e-ecf3f9c9a453)

In this view, the first column is the **User** column that lists all users on the selected team. This column cannot be disabled and is visible at all times. The remaining columns, such as columns with attributes and Flow metrics, can be enabled or disabled individually (see the **Edit columns** section on this page).

If no attribute or metric was found for the user, the cell is empty.

If you see a missing attribute for your team member and want to assign it, update your [CSV file and re-import it](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FD/pages/1802109245), or go to that [user’s details page](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FD/pages/1802436885) to manage their attributes.

### Display: Attribute

The **Attribute** report view offers a comprehensive overview of selected metrics analyzed against specific attributes.

In this view, the attribute you select as first becomes the first column.

### Display: Team

The **Team** report view provides a cross-section of results from selected metrics, analyzed against specific attributes that are mapped directly to each team.

You can **Include** or **Exclude** the nested teams from your view.

Note that since users can belong to multiple teams, the **Total Users** column shows the unique count for the parent team. It is not a mathematical sum of the individual totals from each nested team.
