This page outlines the steps to migrate your Linking data from Confluence Data Center to Confluence Cloud.

> ℹ️ The migration process may take a few hours to complete, depending on how large your Confluence data is.

# Guide

### Step 1 - Plan out your migration

Before you start:

- Upgrade your Linking for Confluence Data Center app to at least version** **5.4.3.
- Understand the macro differences and [feature differences](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LINS/pages/471895451) between Linking for Confluence Data Center and Confluence Cloud.
- Understand the effects of Add page and Add page via Form macros with parameters that are not available in cloud.
- Understand how many Linking macros are on your site, and how many of them cannot be migrated. To locate all your Linking macros, go to **Confluence administration** > **Data management** > **Macro Usage** and search for `Linking`.
- Allocate time for a test migration to understand the steps required to migrate data using the [Atlassian migration tool](https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/confluence-cloud-migration-assistant/?__hstc=72543820.f1ffb555b95f54caea1a9a28de23a28f.1606879596997.1621490459312.1621494574838.286&__hssc=72543820.33.1621494574838&__hsfp=950301092) (CCMA).

### Step 2 - Migrate your site using the Confluence Cloud Migration tool

- Use [Atlassian migration tool](https://support.atlassian.com/migration/docs/confluence-cloud-migration-assistant/?__hstc=72543820.f1ffb555b95f54caea1a9a28de23a28f.1606879596997.1621490459312.1621494574838.286&__hssc=72543820.33.1621494574838&__hsfp=950301092) (CCMA) to migrate all your app data.
- Make sure you mark the Linking app as **Needed in Cloud**.

### Step 3 - Reindex the pages in cloud

After the migration, run the page reindexing in the cloud to enable the Incoming Links macro to establish connections.

1. Go to **Confluence administration **(⚙️) and select **Apps **> **Linking - Configuration**.
2. Leave the **Start date** empty to reindex all pages. Alternatively, specify a particular date to include only those pages that were created or updated after that date.
3. Set the **End date** to the migration completion date.

> ⚠️ If your Confluence instance contains more than 2,000 pages, reindex the pages in parts by choosing a short start and end* *date range. Run the reindexing process multiple times for each date range until you reach the migration completion date.

4. Click **Start Reindexing**.

### Step 4 - Check if your data is all intact

Things to take note of:

- All macros that aren’t available in cloud are displayed as *Legacy Macros***.**
- Refer to [feature differences](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/LINS/pages/471895451) for other Linking macro behaviors that are different between Data Center and cloud.
