> ℹ️ Last updated on11/12/2025.

This page contains information about migrating your Confluence instance to the cloud. Numbered Headings works differently on Data Center and Cloud because of the different integration points these platforms provide. This difference affects the available functionality and the data that is migrated when you move to the cloud.

> 📝 - All global configuration formatting and space-level formatting data are migrated from Data Center to the Cloud. Available from app server version 3.1.3 and cloud version 1.0.8-A.C.
> 📝 - All pages and spaces with numbering are migrated to the cloud without issues but they are no longer numbered.
> 📝 - Page includes in the macro are not supported on the cloud. They work as usual after the migration but without numbered headings.

### **Cloud (Forge Version) Limitations**

To help ensure a smooth transition, please note that we have recently migrated the Cloud version to Forge Native. Here are some key details to keep in mind as you move from Data Center to Cloud.

> ℹ️ - **Nested Macros:** Due to an open issue with Atlassian's platform ([CONFCLOUD-81707](https://jira.atlassian.com/browse/CONFCLOUD-81707)), nested macros may not function as intended. As a temporary workaround, please use the app without nesting it within other macros.
> ℹ️ - **Third-Party App Conflicts:** We are aware of a conflict that can occur when using other third-party apps inside our Numbered Headings App. This is due to a current limitation with the Atlassian Forge platform.
> ℹ️
> ℹ️ We are actively monitoring these issues and will resolve them as soon as compatibility is available from Atlassian."

# Differences between Data Center and Cloud versions

The table below shows a list of functionalities available when you use Numbered Headings in your cloud instance.

> ℹ️ - Page Includes are not supported on Cloud due to missing integration points for them.

| **Feature** | **Data Center** | **Cloud** | **Notes** |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Macro numbering | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | The Numbered Headings macro is compatible with all hosting options and continues to work after migration. |
| Export pages with numbering | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | |
| Blueprint integration | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | |
| Table of contents compatibility | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | |
| Page numbering | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | Page numbering is supported on Confluence Cloud. Migrated pages that have page numbering continue to work as expected with their headings. |
| Space numbering | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | |
| Page includes | :check_mark: | ⚠️ | Page include macros that are placed inside the Numbered Headings macro are no longer numbered. The content of these included pages is shown within the macro on the page without being numbered. |
| Custom format | :check_mark: | :check_mark: | **Custom format** on Confluence Cloud does not support the *Starting heading* and *Skip headings* fields. |
| Global numbering | :cross_mark: | :check_mark: | Confluence administrators can now collectively enable **Numbered Headings** for all spaces and specify how they can be applied across all pages globally. |
| Anchor links | :cross_mark: | :check_mark: | Automatically add anchor links to all the headings in the document while configuring your Numbered Headings in page-level configuration. Learn more on the Formatting options [here](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/NH/pages/72679807). |
| Numbered headings reference macro | :cross_mark: | :check_mark: | Anchor links to all the headings in your document by adjusting your Numbered Headings. This feature allows for cross-referencing of your content throughout different sections and pages. To get anchors in your headings, check **Add anchor links automatically** while setting up your Numbered Headings. More details [here](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/x/RYfTMg) |
| Page numbering in Edit mode | :check_mark: | :cross_mark: | Dynamic numbering updates while editing are currently only available in Data Center. Cloud version applies numbering after page save or publish |
| Page numbering setting in Edit mode | :check_mark: | :cross_mark: | |
| Numbered heading macro in Edit mode | :check_mark: | :cross_mark: | On Cloud, headings are not numbered while you’re editing the page. When you view the page, the macro automatically numbers the headings. |
