# <span style="color: #333333">Create new project template</span>

<span style="color: #333333">To create a new project template:</span>

1. <span style="color: #333333">Select </span><span style="color: #333333">*Apps *</span><span style="color: #333333">from the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Settings menu (*</span>> Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333">*) *</span><span style="color: #333333">on the top right corner.</span>
2. <span style="color: #333333">Navigate to </span><span style="color: #333333">***DELEGATED PROJECT CREATOR > Project templates settings***</span><span style="color: #333333"> in the left sidebar to view the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Configure project templates settings*</span><span style="color: #333333"> page.</span>
  
3. Enter the following:
  1. <span style="color: #333333">*Name*</span><span style="color: #333333">: A relevant template name that summarizes the purpose of the template. This helps a project creator select an appropriate template that suits the project requirements.</span>
  2. *Description*: Brief summary of the template explaining in which scenario the template can be used or by whom.
4. Turn the toggle *On *or *Off *to set the template to <span style="color: #172b4d">enable or disable users from requesting or creating projects based on the respective template</span>.
5. Click *Add* ➕ ** **to create the new template with the mentioned details.

# <span style="color: #333333">Manage project template settings</span>

<span style="color: #333333">The </span><span style="color: #333333">*Project template *</span><span style="color: #333333">tab displays the list of existing templates with the following template details:</span>

- <span style="color: #333333">*Name*</span><span style="color: #333333">: Template name.</span>
- <span style="color: #333333">*Description*</span><span style="color: #333333">: A brief description of the respective template.</span>
- <span style="color: #333333">*Projects created*</span><span style="color: #333333">: Number of projects created using the respective template.</span>
- <span style="color: #333333">*Active*</span><span style="color: #333333">: Status of the template. </span><span style="color: #333333">*Yes *</span><span style="color: #333333">indicates the respective template is active and</span><span style="color: #333333">* No *</span><span style="color: #333333">indicates inactive.</span>

> ⚠️ - <span style="color: #333333">If a project template is inactive, users cannot request or create projects based on that template. While requesting a project using the top horizontal navigation </span><span style="color: #333333">***Apps > Create project from template ***</span><span style="color: #333333">or </span><span style="color: #333333">***Request new project***</span><span style="color: #333333">, users do not see it listed in the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Create new project from template or Request new project *</span><span style="color: #333333">window respectively.</span>
> ⚠️ - <span style="color: #333333">All the projects created before setting a template to inactive mode continue to function as required. The current inactive status has no impact on these projects.</span>

- <span style="color: #333333">You can also perform the following actions on this page:</span>
  - <span style="color: #333333">Drag and drop (</span>> Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333">): Use this option to rearrange the order of templates.</span>
  - <span style="color: #333333">Edit (</span>> Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333">): Click this icon to edit the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Name, Description *</span><span style="color: #333333">and status of the respective template within the row. Once you update the details, click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Update**</span><span style="color: #333333">. Or click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Cancel **</span><span style="color: #333333">to cancel applying the changes.</span>
  - <span style="color: #333333">Copy (</span>> Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333">): Click this icon to copy the settings of the respective template to a new template. Enter a meaningful name as following:</span>

<span style="color: #333333">Click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Copy **</span><span style="color: #333333">to copy the settings to the newly created template.</span>

- <span style="color: #333333">Open new window (</span>> Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333">): Click this icon to open the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Edit Project Template:<~Template name>*</span><span style="color: #333333"> window where you can edit the template further by adding additional details. Refer to the </span><span style="color: #333333">[Edit project template](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/resumedraft.action?draftId=674661367#Projecttemplates-EditPT)</span><span style="color: #333333"> section.</span>

- > Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333">: This indicates that the projects created using the respective template are assigned </span><span style="color: #333333">*Default Jira Workflow Scheme*</span><span style="color: #333333">. You see this icon when a workflow is not set while creating a project template.</span>

<span style="color: #333333">You can also click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Create template from existing project **</span><span style="color: #333333">on the bottom right corner to create a new project template. You are navigated to the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Create template/schemes from project *</span><span style="color: #333333">window. Here you can enter the following details and click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Create scheme **</span><span style="color: #333333">to add a new template to the list of templates in </span><span style="color: #333333">*Project templates*</span><span style="color: #333333">.</span>

- <span style="color: #333333">*New template name*</span><span style="color: #333333">: Enter a meaningful name to be assigned to the newly created template.</span>
- <span style="color: #333333">*Based on existing project*</span><span style="color: #333333">: Select a project from the available list of </span>projects to copy the schemes or configurations from.
  

### <span style="color: #333333">Exporting project templates</span>

- Navigate<span style="color: #333333"> to </span>***DELEGATED PROJECT CREATOR > Project templates settings***<span style="color: #333333"> in the left sidebar to view the </span>*Configure project templates settings*<span style="color: #333333"> page.</span>
- <span style="color: #333333">on the right corner, you can find the "Export to csv" button.</span>

- <span style="color: #333333">clicking the "Export to csv" button brings up the dialog box to choose from what to export.</span>

### <span style="color: #333333">Filtering project templates</span>

- <span style="color: #333333">Project templates can be filtered based on template name, template description, and template status.</span>

# <span style="color: #333333">Edit project template configuration</span>

<span style="color: #333333">The </span><span style="color: #333333">*Edit Project Template*</span><span style="color: #333333"> window (displayed using an </span><span style="color: #333333">*arrow*</span><span style="color: #333333"> </span>> Macro (inline-media-image)

<span style="color: #333333"> next to the respective template) allows you to define the configuration for any project created with the respective template. </span>

<span style="color: #333333">Enter the following details and click </span><span style="color: #333333">**Done**</span><span style="color: #333333"> to save the template:</span>

| <span style="color: #333333">Usage guidance</span> | <span style="color: #333333">User-friendly description displayed during the creation of the project to help the creator choose the appropriate template to use. You can add HTML tags to this parameter to apply various styles, formats and links to the inserted text.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Parent template</span> | <span style="color: #333333">The template to inherit values from. Any values specified in the current template override the settings derived from the parent template. </span><br><span style="color: #333333">Rather than manually duplicating an entire Project Creator for Jira template, you can now designate a parent template. In your current template, simply override the areas that you want to change.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Base project(s)</span> | <span style="color: #333333">Select one or more existing projects that your trusted users can select from to copy the project configurations to a new project.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Limit to group(s)</span> | <span style="color: #333333">A subset of the groups that can use this template to create projects.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Project request approvers</span> | <span style="color: #333333">Add user(s) to assign them permissions to approve any project request of this type.</span><br>> ⚠️ - <span style="color: #333333">Jira administrators list is not displayed here since they already are approvers to any project request by default.</span>
> ⚠️ - <span style="color: #333333">Only users from the groups added in the </span><span style="color: #333333">*Project creation permissions *</span><span style="color: #333333">are available to be added here.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Project type</span> | <span style="color: #333333">Indicates the type of project - </span><span style="color: #333333">*Business*</span><span style="color: #333333"> or </span><span style="color: #333333">*Software*</span><span style="color: #333333">. </span><span style="color: #333333">*Software *</span><span style="color: #333333">is available with Jira Software. To know more about project types, refer to </span><span style="color: #333333">[this article](https://support.atlassian.com/jira-software-cloud/docs/what-is-the-jira-family-of-products/)</span><span style="color: #333333">.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Default assignee</span> | <span style="color: #333333">The default assignee.</span> |
| Board creation | For classic projects, board is created by default when a project is created. If set to "no" a default board will not be created. |
| <span style="color: #333333">Issue schemes</span> | <span style="color: #333333">Indicates the issue scheme that is a group of issues to be copied into the newly created project.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Enable email</span> | <span style="color: #333333">If set to </span><span style="color: #333333">*Allow creator to specify*</span><span style="color: #333333">, the project creator is prompted to provide a project email address when creating the project.</span> |
| <span style="color: #333333">Project categories</span> | <span style="color: #333333">Name of the project categories that the project creator can select to associate with the newly created project. If you only select one item, the creator is not presented with a Project Categories option. Options only appear if there are two or more for the creator to choose from.</span> |

> ⚠️ <span style="color: #333333">Note that the respective project template changes are not effective to create new projects until it is set to active. </span>
