In 2022, we launched the free Planning Poker app to bring a user-friendly, convenient, and flexible native ecosystem experience to Azure DevOps Services users.

Since then, the team behind the app has been busy improving the app and implementing your requests — thank you very much for all the provided feedback!

After getting over 5.5k installs, thousands of users, and monthly active instances, we need your help with supporting the infrastructure to develop Planning Poker further. **That’s why we're converting Planning Poker to a paid app. **

# Action plan

> ℹ️ On 8/3/2026 Planning Poker version 2.1 was released.

## Trial

After 8/3/2026 To use the app, you will need to either purchase access or start a free 30-day trial. The trial will be available to both existing and new customers.

The trial has to be started manually by an organization admin (member of the **Project Collection Administrators***** ****group*).

- Organization admins will see the following banner in the app:
- Other users will see the following message:
- Starting the trial creates an **organization-wide subscription on annual billing** in **trial** status. **No purchase required to begin the trial**.
- Every ADO instance user will be able to use the trial.
- The **organization admin** who started the trial will receive email updates **7 days before the trial ends **and when it **has ended**.

Once the trial is activated, the information about the days left is displayed in the app:

Once a **Project Collection Administrator** starts the trial, it is possible to buy a subscription from **Organization settings → Planning Poker → Subscription**:

- Two plans (**Team** and **Organization**) and two billing options (**monthly** and **annual**) are available.
- The free trial is always created as an **Organization** plan with **annual** billing.
- After selecting a plan and billing cycle and completing checkout (providing billing details), the trial continues. **The first charge is applied 30 days after the trial start date**.

**Annual billing** costs **10×** the monthly rate (equivalent to **two months free** per year).

After the purchase, manage your subscription (seats, tier, renewal, cancellation) using **Manage subscription** on the same tab (**Organization settings → Planning Poker → Subscription**).

Only **one subscription** exists per Azure DevOps organization.
