Use **External Atlassian connections** to establish a trusted connection between two Jira sites running Appfire LiveRisk. Once connected, one Jira site can share data while the other reads it.

You can access External Atlassian Connections from **Jira admin settings** > **Marketplace apps** > **Appfire** **LiveRisk admin** > **Configuration**.

## Before you begin

Before creating a connection:

- Make sure Appfire LiveRisk is installed on both Jira sites.
- Coordinate with an administrator of the other Jira site. Both administrators take part in establishing and verifying the connection.
- Use a separate communication channel to compare the verification code shown during the connection process.

## Create an external connection

Create an external connection when you want to share data between two Jira sites running LiveRisk.

1. Navigate to the **External Atlassian Connections **panel.
2. Click **Connect**.
3. Choose whether this Jira site will **[share data](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RM/pages/3459252588/External+Atlassian+connections#Share-data-with-another-Jira-site)** or **[read data](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/RM/pages/3459252588/External+Atlassian+connections#Read-data-from-another-Jira-site)**.

The remaining steps depend on the type of connection you create.

### Share data with another Jira site

Choose **Share data** when this Jira site will provide data to another LiveRisk instance.

1. In the connection dialog, select **Share data**.
2. Generate a pairing invitation.
3. Copy the invitation and send it to the administrator of the Jira site that will read your data.
4. Compare the verification code shown by LiveRisk with the other administrator using a separate communication channel.

The pairing invitation is single-use and expires after 15 minutes. It does not contain the connection keys. If the invitation expires before the connection is established, generate a new invitation and send the new value to the other administrator.

After you create the invitation, the connection appears in the *External Atlassian Connections* table while the other site completes the pairing. Its status updates as the connection is established.

### Read data from another Jira site

Choose **Read data** when this Jira site will consume data shared by another LiveRisk instance.

> ⚠️ Before you begin, obtain a valid pairing invitation from the administrator of the sharing site.

1. In the connection dialog, select **Read data**.
2. Enter a descriptive *Connection name*.
3. Paste the pairing invitation provided by the sharing site.
4. Click **Connect**.
5. Compare the verification code shown by LiveRisk with the administrator of the sharing site using a separate communication channel.

After the connection is verified and established, the connected site appears in the *External Atlassian Connections* table.

## Manage external connections

The *External Atlassian Connections* table lists every configured connection together with its direction and current status.

Use **Reload** to refresh the list after creating or updating a connection.

If this Jira site reads data from another LiveRisk instance, you can rotate the connection keys by selecting **Rotate keys**. Rotate the keys if you suspect that a connection has been compromised.
