The weight of a child OKR is a numeric value that defines its relative importance or impact when calculating the parent OKR’s overall progress. It allows teams to prioritize high-impact goals over smaller supporting tasks. Instead of treating every child item equally, weighting lets you scale its contribution.

By default, each OKR has a weight of 1 (25%), meaning they are equally important. You can adjust the individual weights to reflect the effort, strategic value, or complexity.

> 📝 You can assign weights only to sub-themes, sub-objectives, and Key Results that contribute to a parent Strategic theme or parent Objective. Top-level Strategic themes and Objectives do not contribute to any other goal; they are the primary goal themselves.

## Add a weight to an OKR

1. On the OKR creation screen, click the weight value next to **Contribution** to edit it.

2. The **Contribution to parent Objective** modal displays. Type in the new value or use the up/down arrows to increase or decrease the weight.
3. The app will automatically calculate the contribution.

> 📝 - If you are creating a Strategic theme or Objective without an assigned higher-level parent, you will not be able to add weight to it, as top-level parent OKRs do not require weights. Once you assign a higher-level parent to it, the weight field becomes available.
> 📝 - When creating the first KR for an Objective, its contribution will be 100%, regardless of the weight. However, as you add more KRs, the contribution of each KR will decrease.
> 📝 - It is possible to assign 0 to the weight. A weight of 0 means the child OKR's progress does not contribute to the progress of its parent Strategic theme or Objective.
