On this page, you will learn how to:
- Configure default card views (box type configuration).
- Set inheritance mode to determine available default card views (box type configuration).
- Configure card views for a particular box (box configuration).
## Security and access
Keep in mind:
- A box type contains the default settings applicable to multiple boxes (all boxes of a given type). Those settings are adjusted in the BigPicture Administration.
- Box configuration refers to the settings of a single, individual box. They are dependent on the box type settings.
The table presents what you can configure at the box type and box levels.

| Box type configuration | Only a user with the App admin security role can access and manage the box type configuration.
Go to the** App Administration** >** Box type **>** choose the box type you want to edit** >** Board / Risks** >** Card views**.
 | For a box type (all boxes of a given type), you can configure:
- Inheritance mode
- Default card views |
| Box configuration | Only a user with a minimum box admin security role can access and manage the box configuration.
Go to **box configuration** >** Board / Risks** >** Card views**.
Alternatively, to access this page, you can click the **Manage card views** button in the **Card view** drop-down of the Board/Risks module. See the video below.

## Inheritance mode
An inheritance mode applies to all boxes of a given type (both existing and newly created).
As a result, when the inheritance mode is set to **inherited** or **own with inherited**, the card views from upper-level boxes appear in the **Card view** drop-down in the Risks and Board modules.

## Default card views
> ℹ️ Changes to the default card views apply to newly created boxes only.
You can set the default views when the inheritance mode is set to **own** or **own with inherited**. The default card views are automatically set up when you create a new box.
Expand the **Current view** drop-down menu to see the default card views in the Risks or Board module.
