# Overview

This page is for administrators who are evaluating Appfire apps for Atlassian Data Center products (Jira, Confluence, or Bitbucket). It explains how Atlassian trial licenses and Appfire trial extensions work, and how to request an extension from Appfire when a trial is blocked or has expired.

## Atlassian Marketplace trial limitations and restrictions

When you install an app from the Atlassian Marketplace, you can start an evaluation (trial) license. That evaluation is valid for a fixed period (for example, 30 days) under Atlassian’s terms.

Appfire apps also enforce a per-instance trial limit. We allow **one (1) evaluation license** per instance (identified by your instance’s Server ID). This limit is based on the number of distinct evaluation licenses (SENs) used on that instance over time, not on the number of days that have passed. If you apply a second distinct evaluation license, the app enters a **blocked** state and disables functionality until you either purchase a license or apply an Appfire trial license key.

> 📝 Check your app’s License Management page for your current license status.

## Appfire trial license extensions

Appfire can issue a **trial license key** that lets you continue using the app after you reach the Atlassian trial limit or your evaluation expires. You can check and manage that key on the app’s License Management page.

### **Where to check**

Check the app’s License Management page, located under **Manage apps** in your instance’s administration settings.

### **Who can manage licenses**

Only users with **Administrator** permission on your Jira, Confluence, or Bitbucket instance can open the license page and apply or remove an Appfire trial license key.

### **What you see on the license page**

- **Overall status**
  - **LICENSED** (paid Atlassian license)
  - **TRIAL ACTIVE** (standard evaluation within the allowed limit)
  - **BLOCKED** (trial limit reached)
  - **APPFIRE TRIAL** (an Appfire trial license key is active)
  - **UNLICENSED** (no valid license)
- **Instance Server ID**:Your instance’s unique identifier, located under the **Required Information for Support **section. You need this when requesting an extension from Appfire.
- **App name and App key**: The product name and key, also located under the **Required Information for Support**section; useful to include in a support request.
- **Atlassian license details**: Current Marketplace license status and type.
- **Appfire trial details** (if a trial license key is stored): Appfire SEN, App key, Server ID, active since and expires-on dates, and options to view, update, or delete the key.

### **Apply a trial license key**

1. Copy the license key that Appfire sent you (for example, from the support ticket or email).
2. On the app’s license management page, paste the key into the **Update license key** field.
3. Submit the form (for example, click **Update**).

The app validates the key immediately. No restart is required. If the key is valid for this instance and this app, the status changes to **APPFIRE TRIAL**.

### **Remove a trial license key**

Use the **Delete** (or equivalent) action on the license page. Confirm when prompted. After removal, the app may become blocked or unlicensed if no other valid license exists.

> ℹ️ The trial license key is bound to **this instance’s Server ID** and **this app** (App key). A key issued for another instance or another Appfire product will be rejected.

## **Requesting an extension from Appfire**

If your trial is blocked or expired, but you need more time to evaluate, you can request a trial extension from Appfire.

### **How to request**

Open a request through the Appfire support portal:

- [Support portal URL](https://apps.appf.re/support-license-management)

Use the option to submit a **[Trial license extension request](https://apps.appf.re/support-license-management)**

### **What to include in your request**

Include the following so Appfire can issue the correct trial license key:

- **App Name: **Select the Appfire Data Center app you are currently evaluating
- **Atlassian Server ID:** Copy it from the **Required Information for Support** section on the app’s License Management page.
- **Organization/company name: **Provide the name of the organization that is evaluating the app
- **Additional context: **Briefly let us know why you need more time (for example, "Testing a complex migration," or "Waiting for final budget approval"). This helps our team approve your request.

Appfire reviews your request and decides whether to approve it. If approved, you receive an Appfire trial license key as an attachment on the support ticket. After you receive the key, apply it on the app’s License Management page (paste it into the **Update License Key** field and submit). The app recognizes the key without a restart.
