## Summary

This article explains what happens to your data and macro functionality when the license for the **Markdown for Confluence** app expires on a Confluence Cloud instance.

## Issue

Users often want to know whether their data is deleted or remains accessible after their subscription expires. In particular, they may be concerned that content created using Markdown for Confluence macros will be lost.

## Answer

If your Markdown for Confluence license expires, the following behavior applies:

- **Content retention:** Your Confluence content is not deleted. Any Markdown macros previously added to your pages remain part of the page content.
- **Macro rendering:** Because the app is no longer licensed, the macros will stop rendering. Instead of the rendered Markdown output, users will typically see an error indicating that the app is unlicensed or that the macro cannot be displayed.
- **Restoring functionality:** Once the app license is renewed, the existing macros will begin rendering again automatically. No manual reconfiguration or recreation of the macros is required.

> 📝 **Note:** The macro data remains stored in Confluence and is not removed when the license expires. If you need to access the underlying macro content while the app is unlicensed, verify the available options based on your Confluence Cloud editor and app behavior (such as viewing the page storage format).
