# Summary

This article provides Jira Cloud administrators with practical methods to identify, audit, and report on the usage of **JQL Search Extensions for Jira** within their instance. This is commonly needed for app renewal decisions, marketplace app audits, or understanding dependencies before uninstalling.

> 📝 There's no built-in feature in JQL Search Extensions that provides a detailed usage report (for example, unique users running queries, frequency of query execution). The methods below are workarounds to assess app dependency.

---

## Method 1: review Extended Search Filters (in-app)

The quickest way to check usage is via the app's built-in **Extended Search Filters** page.

### Steps

1. Go to **Apps > JQL Search Extensions for Jira** in your Jira Cloud instance.
2. Select the **Extended Search Filters** tab.
3. From this section, you can see:
  - The JQL query used in each filter
  - The owner of the filter
  - The last reindex date (if the filter is being used regularly, the date will be recent)
  - Option to open the filter in Jira search

> ⚠️ **Limitation**
> ⚠️
> ⚠️ This only shows filters created directly within the JQL Search Extensions app. It doesn't show standard Jira saved filters that happen to use JSE functions/keywords.

---

## Method 2: Jira REST API scripting

You can programmatically audit **all saved filters** in your Jira instance to find those using JQL Search Extensions syntax, including native Jira filters that were later updated to include JSE functions.

### Steps

1. Paginate through all saved filters using the Jira REST API:
2. Inspect the `jql` field for each returned filter.
3. Scan for JSE-specific syntax. Look for:

#### Functions

- `linkedIssuesOfQuery`
- `childrenOfIssuesInQueryRecursive`
- `parentsOfIssuesInQuery`
- `wildcardMatch`
- `issuesInEpics`
- `subtasksOfQuery`
- `linkedIssuesOfRecursive`
- `epicsOfIssuesInQuery`

#### Keywords

- `parentSummary`
- `commentedOnDate`
- `commentedByUser`
- `attachmentCount`
- `commentsCount`
- `childrenCount`
- `linkedIssuesCount`
- `updatedByUsersCount`

4. Record the filter name, filter owner, and full JQL for any matches.
