This article explains how to fix an issue where a MultiExcerpt Include macro in Confluence Cloud displays a Parent Excerpt placeholder instead of the expected rendered content.

## Problem

After migrating from Confluence Data Center or Server to Confluence Cloud, some pages may show unresolved placeholder text such as `[Parent page excerpt: "PARENT_Customer"]` instead of the content from the MultiExcerpt macro.

This usually happens when a migrated page still references a legacy Excerpt or MultiExcerpt Include placeholder that is not rendering correctly in Cloud.

## Resolution

To refresh the macro and force Confluence to render the MultiExcerpt content correctly, edit and republish the affected page.

1. Open the affected Confluence page.
2. Locate the macro that displays the Excerpt placeholder.
3. Select the macro and click **Make Edit**.
4. After the macro opens in edit mode, confirm that the content inside the MultiExcerpt macro is visible.
5. Click **Update** to publish the page. Don't close the editor; you must update the page for the change to take effect.
6. After you publish the page, reload or review the page and confirm that the MultiExcerpt content is rendered correctly.

## Expected result

The unresolved Parent Excerpt placeholder should no longer appear. The page should display the rendered content from the MultiExcerpt macro.

## Additional notes

- If the placeholder still appears after updating the page, verify that the source page containing the MultiExcerpt content is accessible to the affected users.
- Confirm that users have permission to view both the page with the Include macro and the source page where the MultiExcerpt content is defined.
- If only some users are affected, ask them to test in an incognito or private browser window and clear their browser cache if needed.
