## Summary

This article addresses a scenario where you encounter a `401 Unauthorized` error when accessing the JXL app in Jira Cloud following a password reset. This issue typically occurs because the password change invalidates your OAuth consent or session for the application, even if other Jira functions continue to work correctly.

## Use case

You are unable to load JXL sheets and receive an error message indicating a `401 Unauthorized` response from the Atlassian API, despite being able to access other parts of Jira.

### Error message

You may see a technical error similar to the following:

```json
{
  "location": "screen:sheet:page-data",
  "content": {
    "type": "atlassian-api",
    "expected": false,
    "name": "Error",
    "message": "Request GET /rest/api/3/project/:projectKeyOrId? failed unexpectedly with status 401: {\"code\":401,\"message\":\"Unauthorized\"}",
    "status": 401,
    "response": {
      "code": 401,
      "message": "Unauthorized"
    }
  }
}
```

## Cause

When you reset your Atlassian account password, active sessions and OAuth consents for third-party or Forge applications (like JXL) may be invalidated or become desynchronized. This prevents the app from making authorized REST API calls on your behalf.

## Solution

To resolve the authentication issue, perform the following steps to refresh your session and re-authorize the application:

1. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies:
Clear the browser cache and cookies specifically for the Atlassian domain (`*.atlassian.net` and `id.atlassian.com`). Alternatively, test the behavior in an *Incognito/Private window* to confirm if it is a caching issue.
2. Refresh Jira Session:
Log out of Jira completely and then log back in. This generates a fresh authentication token.
3. Verify Connected Apps:
  - Navigate to the [Atlassian account management page](https://id.atlassian.com/manage-profile/apps).
  - Locate JXL in the list of connected apps.
  - If necessary, revoke access and then return to Jira to re-authorize the app when prompted.
4. Re-open JXL:
Navigate back to the JXL sheet in Jira. The app should now be able to authenticate successfully.
