## Summary

This article addresses two scenarios where the workflow status or metadata is not displayed correctly in Confluence when using Comala Document Management. The first scenario involves the `{pagestatus}` macro not rendering for users without edit permissions. The second scenario involves the `{get-metadata}` macro failing to render due to incorrect parameter configuration in the macro syntax or storage format.

## Environment

- Confluence Data Center
- Comala Document Management

## Problem

### Scenario 1: Page status macro is empty for some users

Users report that the `{pagestatus}` macro does not display any information on a page, even though a workflow is active. This typically occurs for users who can view the page but cannot see the status indicator.

### Scenario 2: Metadata macro fails to render workflow state

When attempting to use the `{get-metadata}` macro as an alternative to display the workflow state (for example, `awpState`), the macro remains empty or fails to render the expected value.

## Cause

### Scenario 1

The `{pagestatus}` macro only renders for users who have permission to see workflow status information on the page. If a user lacks **Edit** permissions for that specific page, the macro will appear empty to them.

### Scenario 2

The `name` parameter within the `{get-metadata}` macro is incorrectly configured. Users often mistakenly include the full macro syntax or prefixes (like `{get-metadata:awpState}`) inside the parameter field, rather than just the metadata key name itself.

## Solution or workaround

### Scenario 1: Use get-metadata as an alternative

To display the workflow status to users who do not have edit permissions, use the `{get-metadata:awpState}` macro. This macro retrieves the state name as metadata and is not subject to the same permission constraints as the `{pagestatus}` macro.

### Scenario 2: Correct the macro configuration

Ensure the `name` parameter contains only the metadata key (for example, `awpState`) without any curly braces, prefixes, or leading spaces.

**Macro browser or editor:**

1. Click the macro placeholder in the Confluence editor.
2. Select **Edit**.
3. In the **Name** field, enter only: `awpState`

**Wiki markup:**

```
{get-metadata:name=awpState}
```

**Storage format (XML):**

```xml
<ac:structured-macro ac:name="get-metadata" ac:schema-version="1">\n  <ac:parameter ac:name="name">awpState</ac:parameter>\n</ac:structured-macro>
```
