# Troubleshooting: BigPicture Widget Permission Error on Jira Project Screen

This article addresses a common issue where users encounter a "missing required permissions" error when trying to access a BigPicture Box via the Jira project widget, even though they can access the same Box directly through the BigPicture application.

## Summary

The BigPicture widget on the Jira project screen requires a specific 1:1 relationship between the Jira project and the BigPicture Box. If the Box's scope definition includes additional elements like Jira boards or multiple projects, the widget may fail with a permission error. This article covers the requirements for the widget to function correctly and how to resolve scope-related access issues.

## Use Case: Permission Error in Jira Project Widget due to Complex Scope

### Problem

A user can access a BigPicture program (Box) successfully using a direct URL or through the BigPicture App's Overview module. However, when clicking the BigPicture widget/tab within a specific Jira project, an error page displays stating the user is missing required permissions, despite all listed permissions being correctly granted.

### Cause

The BigPicture widget on the Jira project screen is designed for a **simple 1:1 relationship**. The error occurs when the Box linked to the Jira project has a **Scope Definition** that includes more than just that single project (e.g., it includes a Jira Board, a Filter, or multiple Projects).

When a Board is added to the Scope Definition, BigPicture treats the scope as a combination (using OR logic). Even if the Board only contains issues from that project, the presence of the Board reference in the scope configuration prevents the widget from establishing the required simple link.

### Solution

To resolve this, you must ensure the Box has a 1:1 relationship with the Jira project:

1. **Simplify Scope Definition:**
  - Navigate to **Box Configuration > Tasks > Scope definition**.
  - Ensure only the specific **Jira Project** is listed.
  - **Remove any Jira Boards** or **Filters** from the Scope Definition.
  - *Note:* If you need to include sprints from a board, BigPicture can often pull these in automatically via Timeboxes without needing the Board explicitly listed in the main Scope Definition, provided the tasks belong to the project.
2. **Verify Box Creation Permissions:**
  - If you intend to create a new Box specifically for this 1:1 relation, the user must have at least **Sub-Box creator** permissions under the Parent/Root box.
3. **Alternative Access:**
  - If the complex scope (Project + Board) is required for your business process, users should continue to access the Box directly through the **BigPicture App** (Overview module) rather than the Jira project widget.
