# BigPicture: Week Numbering and Weekend Display in Resources Module

This article addresses common questions regarding the configuration of week numbering and the visibility of weekends within the BigPicture Resources module. It covers two distinct use cases: configuring week numbering conventions (ISO 8601 vs. US) and the visibility of weekends in the resource planning view.

## Summary

This article provides guidance on:

1. **Configuring Week Numbering:** How to set the week numbering system (e.g., ISO 8601 or US convention) at the application level.
2. **Weekend Visibility:** Clarification on whether weekends can be hidden in the Resources module.

## Use Case 1: Configuring Week Numbering (ISO 8601 vs. US Convention)

### Problem/Context

Users working in different regions (e.g., Europe vs. North America) often use different week-numbering conventions. For example, the week of January 4, 2027, might be considered Week 1 under ISO 8601 but Week 2 under the US convention. Users need to know how BigPicture calculates these numbers and if they can be customized.

### Solution

BigPicture allows administrators to configure the week numbering system at the **app-wide level**. This setting applies to all users on the instance.

To change these settings:

1. Navigate to **App Configuration**.
2. Select the **Region** tab.
3. Go to the **Week numbering** section.

You can define the system based on two criteria:

- **First week day:** Choose between **Sunday** or **Monday**.
- **First week of the year includes:** Choose between **January 1st** or **January 4th**.

#### Common Conventions:

- **ISO 8601 (European Standard):** Set "First week day" to **Monday** and "First week of the year includes" to **January 4th**.
- **US Convention:** Set "First week day" to **Sunday** and "First week of the year includes" to **January 1st**.

## Use Case 2: Hiding Weekends in the Resources Module

### Problem/Context

Users may want to hide weekends from the Resources module view to focus strictly on working days and reduce visual clutter during resource planning.

### Solution/Workaround

Currently, it is **not possible to hide weekends** in the BigPicture Resources module. The module is designed to provide full visibility of the entire month to ensure comprehensive resource planning, which includes viewing non-working days.
