Estimate synchronization is controlled by field-mapping configuration. It is not enabled automatically for every task type.

## Problem

Estimates entered in BigPicture do not appear in the corresponding Jira issue fields, such as **Original Estimate**. This usually means that the required field mapping has not been configured.

## Symptoms

- An estimate is visible in BigPicture, but the related Jira issue field remains empty.
- Task dates or scheduling do not reflect the expected Jira estimate.
- The behavior occurs for a native Jira issue displayed in BigPicture.

## Prerequisites

- Permission to update BigPicture application or Box configuration.
- Access to the relevant Jira fields and the BigPicture task or Box.

## Solution

### Step 1: Open the field-mapping configuration

Choose the configuration scope that matches your requirement:

- **Global mapping:** Open **App configuration > General > Fields**.
- **Box-specific mapping:** Open **Box configuration > Tasks > Field mapping**.

### Step 2: Map the estimate fields

Configure the relevant BigPicture estimate field and its Jira counterpart. Depending on your scheduling requirement, use Jira’s **Original Estimate** or the combination of **Time Spent + Remaining Estimate** as the source for task scheduling dates.

### Step 3: Save and apply the configuration

Save the mapping and allow the configuration to apply to the relevant Box or tasks. Reopen or refresh the task and its Jira issue if the updated value is not immediately visible.

> ⚠️ **Important:** BigPicture Basic Tasks are different from native Jira issues. Basic Tasks store estimates in BigPicture’s built-in fields and do not synchronize those estimates to native Jira issue fields.

## Verification

1. Open a native Jira issue that is represented as a task in BigPicture.
2. Enter or update an estimate in the mapped BigPicture field.
3. Refresh the Jira issue and confirm that the mapped field contains the expected value.
4. Check the task schedule to confirm that dates are calculated from the selected estimate source.

## Preventive guidance

- Document whether estimate mappings are managed globally or at the Box level.
- Use native Jira issues when estimates must be available in Jira fields.
- Review field mappings after changing Jira field configurations or introducing new task types.
