## Problem

When work on a task is delayed, BigPicture may keep the original planned end date instead of moving it automatically.

## Symptoms

- A task remains associated with its original planned end date after a delay.
- Logged work reduces the remaining estimate, but the planned end date does not shift.
- The task appears as overdue rather than being rescheduled automatically.

## Prerequisites

- Access to the relevant BigPicture box or Gantt view.
- Permission to view task progress and scheduling information.

## Solution

### Step 1: Review the task status

Open the task in the Gantt view and compare its planned dates with its progress and remaining estimate.

### Step 2: Use overdue-task visibility

Treat the unchanged end date as an indicator that the task is behind its original plan. Review the overdue-task information in the Infobar or enable delayed-task visibility directly on the Gantt chart.

**Expected result:** Delayed work remains visible against the baseline plan, allowing project managers to identify schedule variance without silently moving the original commitment.

### Step 3: Track the recovery plan separately

Use the task's progress, remaining estimate, dependencies, and project planning process to decide how the schedule should be recovered. Do not assume that logging time alone will reschedule the task.

## Verification

Confirm that the task is marked or reported as overdue and that its original planned end date remains available for comparison. This confirms that BigPicture is displaying the delay as intended.

## Preventive Guidance

Review overdue-task reports regularly and update the project plan deliberately when dates or dependencies need to change. Keeping the original plan visible helps distinguish actual delay from a plan that was quietly moved.
