# Troubleshooting Non-Working Days and Duration Calculations in BigPicture Gantt

This article covers two distinct scenarios related to how non-working days (like Saturdays) are displayed and calculated in the BigPicture Gantt module when using custom workload and holiday plans.

## Summary

The article addresses:

1. **Scenario 1:** Tasks not calculating duration correctly based on a custom 6-day work week.
2. **Scenario 2:** The Gantt timeline still showing default non-working days (e.g., Saturdays) as greyed out, even for users with a 6-day workload plan.

---

## Scenario 1: Duration Working Days Not Calculating Corrected for Custom Plans

**Problem:** A new workload plan (e.g., Monday–Saturday) is assigned to users, but the "Duration Working Days" field in the Gantt chart still excludes Saturdays from the count.

**Cause:**

- The global setting to respect assignee-specific calendars may be disabled.
- Existing tasks do not automatically update their duration when a plan is changed; they require a trigger to re-validate against the new calendar.

**Solution:**

1. **Enable Assignee-Based Calculation:** A Jira administrator must enable the option **"Calculate tasks automatically based on assignee’s working days"** in BigPicture’s App Configuration. This ensures the scheduling engine considers the assignee's specific workload, holiday, and absence plans.
2. **Verify Plan Settings:**
  - Ensure the **Workload Plan** has working hours greater than zero for the specific day (e.g., Saturday).
  - Ensure the **Holiday Plan** does not mark that day as a non-working day.
3. **Trigger Re-calculation:** Changes to plans do not retroactively update existing tasks. To update a task, you must perform an action that triggers validation, such as manually adjusting the task's duration or moving its dates in an automatic scheduling mode.

## Scenario 2: Gantt Timeline Displaying Default Non-Working Days

**Problem:** Even when durations are calculated correctly, the Gantt timeline background still shows Saturdays and Sundays as greyed out (non-working) for all tasks, making it difficult to distinguish between 5-day and 6-day schedules at a glance.

**Cause:**
By design, the Gantt timeline's default background shading is driven by the **Default Holiday Plan**. This provides a consistent visual fallback for the entire Box, especially for tasks without an assignee.

**Solution/Workaround:**

- **Individual Task Selection:** When you click on a specific task row, the Gantt timeline will dynamically update the greyed-out areas to reflect the specific Holiday Plan assigned to that task's assignee.
- **Multi-Select View:** To see the non-working days for multiple assignees at once, you can select multiple tasks. The timeline will then highlight the non-working days relevant to those specific users.
- **Note:** It is not currently possible to change the global background to show only one non-working day (e.g., Sunday only) for some tasks while showing two for others simultaneously without selecting the rows. The background shading will always default to the Box's Default Holiday Plan when no task is selected.
