# Description

To use the Tempo CLI with a Jira Cloud instance, you will need to add a **tempoToken** parameter to your customized start script or directly on a Tempo CLI action. The value of the parameter should be a token generated for the instance being accessed following the procedure below. You need [CLI 8.7](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ACLI/pages/60562240) or above to use the Tempo CLI with a Cloud instance.

> ℹ️ A Tempo API token is unique to an instance and is distinct from Atlassian API tokens which work across Cloud instances.

# Create a personal authorization token

To create a personal authorization token, you need to login to your Jira Cloud instance. Navigate to the **Tempo settings** menu and select *API Integration*.

# Alternative for Tempo administrators

Tempo administrators can generate an API token with more capabilities, if needed. Refer to [How to Tempo Cloud REST APIs](https://tempo-io.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/KB/pages/199065601/How+to+use+Tempo+Cloud+REST+APIs) for more information.
