## What happens to your old data

- Your earlier data is not lost immediately. Appfire securely keeps the old bucket for 90 days, giving you ample time to recover or reconnect it if needed. (You may find references to a 28-day data retention period in Atlassian's documentation. This policy does not apply to TFS4JIRA. We do not use Atlassian storage and give you 90 days.)
- During this 90-day period, you can request data relinking through the Appfire Support Team. They’ll coordinate to reconnect your older installationId to the new one.

> ⚠️ After 90 days, the data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered.

### Important considerations before recovery

- Linking to old data means losing any current data. You cannot access both installations simultaneously—recovering old data will disconnect the current installation's data.
- Data recovery is permanent and irreversible. Once your new installation is linked to old data, you cannot switch back.
- Data from multiple installations cannot be combined. We can only link one installation at a time.

## Required steps for data recovery

If you need to recover data after reinstalling an app, follow the steps below:

**Recovery process**

1. Plan accordingly for potential downtime during the recovery process.
2. Submit a request to Appfire support, including the Atlassian Cloud ID. You can get it by visiting [https://ondemand-jiraz-production.spartez-software.com/api/myself](https://ondemand-jiraz-production.spartez-software.com/api/myself).
3. Appfire support team manually restores and links data to the new instance.

> 📝 - This process requires manual intervention from our support team.
> 📝 - Recovery is not instantaneous - expect several days for completion.
> 📝 - You cannot recover the data yourself - it must go through official support channels.

## Best practices to avoid data loss

Before uninstalling, consider alternative troubleshooting steps before reinstallation.

- Contact support for troubleshooting assistance before choosing reinstallation.
- Review [Help and support](https://appfire.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/TFS4JIRA/pages/1704264309) documentation for alternative solutions.
- Consider if reinstallation is necessary for your specific issue.
